ACTION AT BERRYESSA TROUT PENS!

Wednesday, April 20, 2016, Markley Cove Resort, Lake Berryessa.  STAN WONG, who heads up the Trout Pen Project, had been checking water temperatures regularly at the pens since early April.  The cooling trend kept the temps around 62-64 degrees and Stan determined conditions were perfect for the fish release.   Back in January 2016, approximately 750 pounds of healthy trout were delivered by California Dept. of Fish & Wildlife and were placed into the pens at the end of Markley Cove docks.  Volunteers provided the man-power and Markley Cove folks fed and watched them grow until release time.

From the time the fish were put into the pens, they more than doubled in weight.  Sample fish were netted, measured, weighed and released.  Stan reports, “They were very healthy, clean looking and very active”.  On hand were CDFW Kyle Murphy, Greg Mott and Susan Book, Tresha Audelo, Gary Voet and Stan Wong.

The Lake Berryessa Trout Pen Project began in 1999 when a CIFFI fish-enhancing program financed the four-pen trout rearing facility.  Because of continued involvement and the partnership between CIFFI and CDFW, Lake Berryessa has become a go-to destination for anglers.  This trend should again continue in 2016 and anglers can expect to catch some pretty good sized, good looking rainbow trout.  Thanks to Stan and his willing volunteers!
