CIFFI ANNUAL CHRISTMAS “BLAST”!

Wednesday, December 16, 2015 ~ Elks Lodge, Sacramento.

The Annual Christmas Party, well-attended by about 70 CIFFI members & Board of Directors, was held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Elks Lodge, Sacramento.

The ”Blast” as always, is an opportunity for folks to get together each year for an update on CIFFI happenings and to enjoy good food, friends, angling stories and comraderie.  The Board met earlier for a discussion on upcoming events, the budget, projected expenses and plans for the upcoming year.  Financing for the Kokanee Program is ensured and California Dept. of Fish & Wildlife has been assured that CIFFI is continuing to support their efforts in providing fishing opportunities for the angling public, especially youth based programs.

Special guest speaker was Kyle Murphy, CDFW Senior Environmental Scientist, Lake and Reservoir Management & Research, who provided an overview of 2015 kokanee egg take and results and projections for kokanee plants in 2016.  Also, guest and special speaker was Allan Greenhalgh, owner of Kokabow Fishing Tackle, Idaho.  His insight into development and promotion of his kokanee trolling products and quality of kokanee fishing in states other than California were of tremendous interest to the folks in attendance…especially the kokanee limits of 25 fish he experiences!  It made for a fun and very lively discussion!

A good raffle, always a highlight of CIFFI gatherings, and headed up by a Lowrance locator, generated a profitable evening, covering the food catered by Buckhorn Caterers.  Garry Erck, President of CIFFI, thanked members for attending and for being so supportive of CIFFI’s efforts.  He talked about how things changed when social media progressed and reminded everyone of the efforts that are made to keep the ciffi.org website current to provide information to the membership.  Gone are the snail-mail Newsletters!  Anything and everything CIFFI is doing, has done, plans on doing, is now on the website – available to the members.  He stated the Board of Directors is appreciative of the support the membership provides, the faith they show in allowing the Board to handle funding of projects and their willingness to allow CIFFI leadership to conduct its business.  The drought in California created many headaches for outdoors folks and current weather patterns are a welcome change!

The outlook for 2016 looks to be very favorable.  Lakes and reservoirs are receiving moisture and the kokanee program is ongoing.  The BoD appreciates every member and looks forward to meeting and greeting many at the upcoming I.S.E. Show in Sacramento, January 21-24, 2016.  If you missed the Christmas “Blast”….remember, it will happen again in December 2016!
